Fallout Lovers Unite
« on: May 13, 2017, 02:44:24 am »
Yesterday on Discord I noticed [RE]Hunter was playing Fallout 4, which gave me the itch—but I don't have time to get sucked into a playthrough right now. I decided we need a thread for Fallout lovers, whether you're playing through a Fallout title and have something to share, or you're going through withdrawal and crave some Fallout banter, ambience, whatever.

AMBIENCE AND MUSIC

Ah fallout 4. The never-ending hunt for adhesive. I played it a lot on PS4 when my last computer shit the bed but didn't progress much with the story. Found myself mostly just scrapping the shit out of everything.

There's an easy source of adhesive: vegetable starch, which you can craft from corn, mutfruit, tatos, and purified water. IIRC aluminum and oil were the hardest things for me to keep on hand. I remember planning out careful routes from my main settlement so I'd hit all the important vendors and sell big caches of water in as short of trips as possible haha.

The water trick stopped working for me after a while.

What happened exactly? I've seen other mentions of water not working and it seems there's more than one issue people run into:
  • an update that adjusted how purifiers generate water to make the game more challenging; this one you just gotta live with
  • settlements only fill their workshops with water to a certain point, and then stop; you have to move water to a different container to keep it going
  • there's at least one glitch that requires some TLC from the player, which can reset bugged water production

It was after one of the updates. They basically stopped producing water. I've also linked a lot of my settlements together and I wonder if that makes them share water supplies. Thereby creating less for storage and sale.

Hmm that could be. I got into the habit of taking water out of workshops every time I visited settlements, even if only to put them in another nearby container until vendor caps replenished (I've never liked using waiting to get what I want in-game so I just come back). That way the settlement stops "seeing" the water you already have and continues producing more.

IIRC one thing that often fixes complete water production stoppages is simply removing and then replacing a purifier. Seems to reset production.

Whats up guys, its been a while! I do love me some Fallout! but only  modded to a state almost unrecognizable from vanilla. The vanilla Fallout 4 was way too unrealistic for my taste. 45 shots to kill someone was a bit.... off. As for ambiance or whatever, for those of you that have Spotify, the entire fallout soundtrack is available which is quite good. Additionally, there are plenty of other game soundtracks and playlists including ESO and Skyrim, which I feel is probably one of the best.
